How to Install a Front and Rear Dash Cam: A Step-by-Step Guide

Kyltoor Installation Guide

Installing a front and rear dash cam may look complicated, but most drivers can complete the basic setup with careful planning and the right instructions. This guide explains how to position both cameras, route the cables, connect the power supply, and test your Kyltoor dash cam before driving.

Quick Installation Overview

  1. Choose a safe position for the front camera.
  2. Clean the windshield and attach the mounting bracket.
  3. Route the power cable along the vehicle trim.
  4. Install and connect the rear camera.
  5. Insert the memory card and power on the dash cam.
  6. Test the front and rear recording views.

Important: Vehicle interiors and electrical systems vary. Do not route cables across airbags or moving controls. If you are unsure about the reversing trigger wire or hardwire installation, contact a qualified automotive installer.

Before You Begin

Prepare the following components before starting the installation:

Kyltoor front dash cam
Mounting bracket
Rear camera and cable
Original vehicle charger
Compatible memory card
Microfiber cloth and trim tool

Insert the memory card in the correct direction before powering on the dash cam. Do not force the card into the slot. The dash cam requires continuous external power during normal recording; its internal battery is mainly used to preserve settings and save information.

1

Choose the Front Camera Position

Mount the front dash cam high on the windshield, usually near or behind the rearview mirror. The position should provide a clear road view without blocking the driver’s vision.

  • Keep the lens facing straight ahead.
  • Avoid obstructing windshield sensors or cameras.
  • Leave enough room to remove or adjust the dash cam.
  • Check the view from the driver’s seat before attaching the mount.
2

Clean the Windshield and Attach the Mount

Clean the selected windshield area with a microfiber cloth. Remove dust, moisture, fingerprints, and oil, then allow the glass to dry completely.

  1. Connect the mounting bracket securely to the dash cam.
  2. Confirm that the bracket faces the correct direction.
  3. Remove the protective film from the adhesive pad.
  4. Press the bracket firmly against the windshield for several seconds.

Attach the mounting bracket, clean the windshield, and press the adhesive base firmly into position.
3

Adjust the Front Camera Angle

Adjust the bracket so the road fills most of the frame while a small portion of the vehicle hood remains visible. Avoid pointing the lens too high toward the sky or too low toward the dashboard. Tighten the bracket after finding the correct angle.

4

Connect and Route the Power Cable

Connect the supplied power cable to the dash cam’s power port. Route the cable along the upper windshield, down the passenger-side trim, and toward the vehicle power outlet.

Airbag safety: Do not route the cable directly across or in front of an A-pillar or curtain airbag. Consult your vehicle manual when the airbag position is unclear.
Adjust the camera angle, then route the original power cable along the windshield trim toward the vehicle power outlet.
Tuck the power cable carefully into the headliner, side trim, and door seal without obstructing airbags or vehicle controls.
5

Route the Rear Camera Cable

Connect the rear camera cable to the front dash cam. Align the markings on the connectors before inserting them, and never twist or force the plug.

Route the cable along the headliner and vehicle trim toward the rear window or trunk. Keep the cable away from airbags, hinges, seat rails, sharp edges, and other moving parts.

Follow one of the illustrated cable routes and continue routing the rear-camera cable toward the trunk or rear window.
6

Install the Rear Camera

Position the rear camera near the upper center of the rear window or in another location suitable for your vehicle and camera design.

  • Choose a stable, clean mounting surface.
  • Keep the view centered and unobstructed.
  • Avoid excessive glare and rear-window trim.
  • Check the live preview before attaching the adhesive mount.
7

Connect the Optional Reversing Trigger Wire

The rear camera cable may include a red trigger wire. This wire is only required when you want the display to switch automatically to the reversing view after the vehicle is placed in reverse.

The red wire connects to the positive wire of the reversing lamp. If this function is not needed, leave the wire disconnected. The rear camera can still record normally. Professional installation is recommended when you are unfamiliar with automotive wiring.

The optional red trigger wire connects to the positive reversing-light wire. Align the connector arrows and mount the rear camera securely.
8

Insert and Check the Memory Card

Confirm that the memory card is inserted correctly. After powering on the dash cam, check that the card is detected and format it through the camera menu when required.

Formatting deletes all files on the card. Save important recordings before formatting.

9

Power On and Test the System

Start the vehicle or supply power to the camera. Confirm that recording begins and that both front and rear camera images are displayed correctly.

  • Check the front and rear recording views.
  • Confirm that the memory card is detected.
  • Set the correct date and time.
  • Make sure all cables are secure.
  • Verify that no cable interferes with driving controls.
  • Review a short test recording before regular use.

Connect to the Viidure App

The Kyltoor dash cam supports direct Wi-Fi connection through the Viidure app. Enable Wi-Fi on the dash cam, connect your phone to the camera’s Wi-Fi network, and open the app to preview or download supported recordings.

  1. Enable Wi-Fi on the dash cam.
  2. Open the Wi-Fi settings on your phone.
  3. Select the dash cam network.
  4. Enter the password displayed by the dash cam.
  5. Open Viidure and connect to the recorder.

Some phones may temporarily lose mobile internet access while connected directly to the dash cam Wi-Fi. This is normal.

Common Installation Mistakes

Mounting the front camera too low
It may obstruct the driver’s view or record too much of the dashboard.
Installing the mount on dirty glass
Dust, oil, or moisture can weaken the adhesive.
Pointing the lens too high
Too much sky may reduce useful road detail.
Leaving cables loose
Loose cables can distract the driver or interfere with controls.
Routing cables across airbags
Never install a cable where it may obstruct airbag deployment.

Frequently Asked Questions

Can I install the dash cam myself?

Most drivers can complete the basic mounting and cable routing. Electrical connections should be handled by a qualified installer when you are unsure.

Does the rear camera work without the red trigger wire?

Yes. The rear camera can record normally without the red wire. The wire is only needed for automatic reversing-view activation.

Does parking mode work with the standard vehicle charger?

Advanced parking monitoring requires a compatible hardwire kit, which is sold separately.

Why does the camera turn off when the vehicle turns off?

The dash cam requires external power for continuous recording. The internal battery is not intended for extended standalone operation.
